Spring Forward with Cheap Crafty Mama {please read!}

Standard

You may have noticed a few changes around here at http://www.cheapcraftymama.com… that is because I have been working on transferring my blog to a self-hosted site at a new server.  This will allow me to do some exciting new things on my blog that I’m sure you will enjoy!

I am working on fixing all the glitches involved in switching over but I wanted to make you aware that IF YOU WERE SIGNED UP TO RECEIVE EMAIL OR RSS NOTIFICATIONS OF NEW POSTS, YOU MIGHT STOP GETTING THEM UNLESS YOU SIGN UP AGAIN ON MY NEW SITE!

The web address (www.cheapcraftymama.com) has not changed but some of my email/feed providers have.

I’m really sorry for the inconvenience but I have made it easy to sign up in my side-bar (the area on the right-side of my blog).  You can receive updates via:

*Email

*RSS

*Facebook

*Linky Followers

… all with just a few clicks!  Please don’t miss out on all of the fun and creative things going on around here!

Additionally, if you have pinned (using Pinterest) any of my posts, unfortunately they all have a new URL so they will need to be re-pinned in order for the links to work.

SO WHILE YOU ARE SPRINGING FORWARD AND RE-SETTING ALL OF YOUR CLOCKS, PLEASE ALSO TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO RE-SET YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS TO CHEAP CRAFTY MAMA (unless you are still getting them, which you can tell if the latest update you have received was my “Marbleized Paper Eggs” post from Friday.

I can’t tell you how much it means to me that each and every one of you follow my blog!  Thanks so much!

~Kate

Top 10 Tuesday- St. Patrick’s Day Ideas

St. Patrick’s day is just around the corner… are you doing anything to celebrate?  I really do want to know your ideas because besides wearing green, I usually don’t do much for St. Patty’s day.  After seeing so many cute ideas of crafts, decor, and yummy things to make I am feeling pretty inspired so maybe I will just need to start some new traditions!

Changes Are Coming to Cheap Crafty Mama!

Standard

I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that I over the next few days I will be transferring my blog to a new server so it might not always be available for viewing.

I’m really excited about the new changes I will be able to make by being on a new server!

Sorry for the inconvenience!  Keeping my fingers crossed that it will be back up and running better than ever later this week!

Grilled Salmon with Fruit Salsa

Grilled Salmon with Fruit Salsa

We have been having such delightfully pleasant weather lately that it just seems wrong to be inside (I know my son would agree with me).  I’ve learned recently that a great way to cook dinner on a beautiful day (especially if you have an active toddler that wants to be outside all the time) is to grill it.  I like to do some prep work while he is napping so I can have everything ready to throw on the grill in the evening.

This meal is also inspired by my recent trip to Belize where I decided I needed to start including more tropical fruits (and fish) in our meals!  I love the way the salsa pairs sweet with spicy, it is a perfect topping for the salmon.

Elephant T-shirt {free pattern}

My little guy is kind of obsessed with elephants right now (and trucks).  I indulge his fetish by taking him to the zoo about once a week (I have always wanted an excuse to go to the zoo) and every time I mention “zoo” he starts making elephant trumpeting sounds.  Sometimes he is making those sounds when I come to get him out of bed in the morning.  A lot of times when I ask him what he wants to wear he will make elephant sounds (he does have a truck shirt so I guess he figures he should have an elephant shirt too) so I decided to make him an elephant shirt!

Spring Centerpieces

Last week I posted “Top 10 Spring Wreaths” which got me in the mood for some spring decorating!  I decided I needed a fresh look in our dining room so I came up with some bright, cheery spring centerpieces.  I was able to make them using mostly things I already had, all I had to buy was the flowers (which I got for half-off)!

Spinach and Ham Quiche

Spinach and Ham Quiche

I love making quiche because it is quick, easy, cheap, and tasty and I can usually whip one up with whatever ingredients we have on hand.  One particular man in my family likes to eat quiche, as long as it is not called “quiche” (that sounds too girly), so at our house we sometimes call it “man pie” (you can’t say that sounds girly).

Striped Quilt

Striped Quilt

Since we will soon have a new little one moving into our nursery, I have been working on making our spare bedroom into a fun “big boy room” for my son.  I decided to work on it now while I still have energy and feel good.  We debated a lot about what kind of bed to use (any advice about getting a 22-ish month old to sleep in a bed is much appreciated) and decided to keep the antique full-sized bed in his room so I wanted to make a cute boyish quilt for him! Multigrain Sandwich Bread

Multigrain Sandwich Bread

I love to make bread because I love to eat fresh baked bread, I love the way it makes the house smell, I love having the leftovers for sandwiches (PB&J is my guilty pleasure) and also it totally makes me feel like a domestic diva!  Several years ago I set out on a mission to learn how to make a great whole-grain sandwich loaf and it took several tries but I have found this to be a great fool-proof recipe!  If you follow the instructions you should end up with a beautiful bakery-quality loaf of delicious bread!
